Debian, DecoderPro, LocoBuffer-USB

Updated 03 March 2010

A tutorial on how to set up a dedicated computer to run DecoderPro with Locobuffer_USB on a Debian Linux computer is provided below. The new tutorial leads you through the full installation of Debian Linux and then JMRI DecoderPro for use with LocoBuffer-USB. Just from the point of installing Debian Linux on a computer the Tutorial may be useful to you.

My first tutorial was written in the fall of 2008. Since then Debian & DecoderPro have been upgraded. The instructions in the original package are out of date so I have removed the package. The old ICON package has been removed as well.

I have completed work on new instructions that use JMRI DecoderPro release 2.8 on a Debian 5.04 operating system. These version are 'stable'/'production' versions. I have stayed away from 'test' versions because they are just that 'test'. If you do use 'test' versions the tutorials I have written may not apply. Check on the JMRI website for information and requirements to be used with "test" versions.

Again the tutorial leads you through the full installation of Debian Linux and then JMRI DecoderPro for use with LocoBuffer-USB.

The tutorial "DebianDecoderPro.pdf".

A new ICON install package "ICON.pdf".
